In short: Date Difference Calculator
From 1 January 2026 to 14 October 2026 is 286 days, which reads as 9 months, 13 days and comes to 40.86 weeks. Of those days 204 fall from Monday to Friday and 82 fall at the weekend, which is the split that matters when planning work.
What is Date Difference?
The difference between two dates is the number of days from one to the other, which can also be read as a number of years, months and days.
How is Date Difference calculated?
Both dates are read as plain calendar dates and one is subtracted from the other. Working days are counted from whole weeks plus the days left over, starting from whichever weekday the first date falls on, so the answer is exact even across many years.

Questions people ask
Should I count the last day?
It depends on what you are measuring. For a stay, a notice period or a hire, the last day usually counts, which is why the option is there. For an age or a gap between events, it usually does not.
Are public holidays taken out?
No. The working-day count excludes Saturdays and Sundays only, because holidays differ by state and by company. Subtract your own holidays from the figure shown. That is the one thing a general tool cannot know.
Why does the breakdown in months look odd?
Because months are different lengths, so a span of sixty days is two months in some parts of the year and not quite two in others. The day count is the exact figure; the years and months reading is the human one. Both are shown so you can use whichever fits.
Can the dates be in any order?
Yes. If the later date is entered first the tool measures the same gap and tells you it reversed them. The number of days is the same either way.
