In short: Fraction Calculator
The answer to the sum above is 19/12, which is 1 7/12 as a mixed number, 1.58 as a decimal and 158.33% as a percentage. The working is 3/4 + 5/6 = 19/12. The answer is always reduced by dividing both parts by their highest common factor.
What is Fraction?
A fraction is one whole number divided by another, written with the numerator above the denominator.
How is Fraction calculated?
To add or subtract, put both fractions over the same denominator by cross-multiplying, then combine the numerators. To multiply, multiply the tops and the bottoms. To divide, turn the second fraction upside down and multiply. Then reduce the result.
- athe numerator of the first fraction
- bthe denominator of the first fraction
- cthe numerator of the second fraction
- dthe denominator of the second fraction

Questions people ask
What does simplifying a fraction mean?
Dividing the top and the bottom by the largest number that goes into both, which leaves the same value written as small as it can be. Six over eight becomes three over four. The tool always gives the reduced form.
Why can a denominator not be zero?
Because dividing by nothing has no answer: there is no number that, multiplied by zero, gives anything but zero. The tool says so rather than showing an error code. The same applies when a division leaves a zero on the bottom.
What is a mixed number?
A whole number with a fraction beside it, such as one and a half, rather than three over two. Both say the same thing, and which reads better depends on the use. The tool shows both.
Can I work with negative fractions?
Yes, put the minus sign on either the numerator or the denominator and the answer carries it correctly. The result is always shown with the sign on the front. Two negatives multiplied give a positive, as usual.
