    In short: Scan to PDF

Scan to PDF turns photographs of a document into a PDF in this page. Scanner apps usually want an account and an upload; Daytoolz asks for the camera only on this page and on the QR scanner, reads the frames on your device, and keeps none of them. Refusing the camera still leaves the gallery route.

    What is Scan to PDF?

Scanning to PDF means photographing each page, lifting the paper towards white and the ink towards black, and writing the pages into one document.

How is Scan to PDF calculated?

    grey=0.299R+0.587G+0.114B

Each pixel is turned to grey using the standard weights for how bright the eye finds red, green and blue. The document look then pushes the light greys of the paper up towards white and the dark greys of the ink down towards black, which is what makes a photograph read like a scan.

    • greythe brightness of the pixel
    • Rthe red value of the pixel
    • Gthe green value of the pixel
    • Bthe blue value of the pixel

How to use this scan to PDF

    1. Tap the box and photograph the first page, or pick photographs already taken.
    2. Add a photograph for each further page, in order.
    3. Choose the look. Document is right for most printed pages.
    4. Save the PDF, assembled on this device.

    Questions people ask

Do I have to give the camera permission?

No. The same box accepts photographs already on the device, so refusing the camera costs you nothing but an extra step. Where you do allow it, the permission applies to this page alone and the frames are read and discarded.

    How do I get a clean-looking page?

Lay the page flat in even light, fill the frame with it, and keep the camera square to the paper rather than at an angle. The document filter then does the rest. A shadow across the page is the one thing the filter cannot fix.

    Which look should I choose?

Document suits most printed pages and keeps text crisp. Grey is better for a page with photographs on it, and black and white gives the smallest file for plain text. Original leaves the photograph exactly as taken.

    Is the text searchable afterwards?

No. Each page is a picture of the page, so the text in it cannot be selected or searched. Recognising the characters is a separate job this tool does not do. For a document you need to search, ask the sender for the original file.
