In short: CGPA to Percentage Calculator

A CGPA of 8.2 converts to 77.90% under the rule chosen, which is percentage = CGPA x 9.5 (CBSE), and falls in the First division with distinction band. There is no single national formula, so a form that asks for a percentage usually means the one your own institution publishes.

What is CGPA to Percentage?

A CGPA is a cumulative grade point average, and converting it to a percentage uses a formula each board or university sets for itself.

How is CGPA to Percentage calculated?

percentage=CGPA×s+c

Each institution publishes its own straight-line rule: a multiplier and sometimes an amount added or taken off. The CBSE rule multiplies by nine and a half; some universities subtract a fraction of a point first. The tool applies whichever you choose and names it.

Questions people ask

Why multiply CGPA by nine and a half?

Because CBSE derived that factor from the average of its own grade bands, and publishes it as the official conversion for its marksheets. It applies to CBSE and should not be assumed for a university. Using the wrong rule can shift a percentage by several points.

Which rule should I use on an application form?

The one your own institution publishes, which is usually printed on the marksheet or in the regulations. Where the form asks for a conversion certificate, the institution issues it. Converting by a different rule than your institution's can count as misreporting.

What if my university is not in the list?

Check its regulations for the formula, which is usually a multiplier with or without an offset, and pick the listed rule that matches. If none does, the registrar's office can confirm it. The list holds the rules in widest use.

Is a CGPA out of four handled?

Yes, choose the four-point scale and the CGPA is rescaled before the rule is applied. The UGC rule for a four-point scale is also in the list. Read the scale from your own marksheet rather than assuming.
