In short: IFSC Code Finder

Type an IFSC above and IFSC Code Finder returns the bank, the branch, its address and the MICR code. Check it against the cheque or the passbook before a large transfer: a transfer to a valid code at the wrong branch is far harder to unwind than one that simply fails.

What is IFSC Code?

An IFSC is the eleven-character code that identifies one bank branch for electronic transfers, with the bank in the first four characters and the branch in the last six.

How is IFSC Code calculated?

IFSC=bank+0+branch

The first four characters name the bank, the fifth is always a zero kept in reserve, and the last six identify the branch. The structure is why an obviously malformed code can be rejected before any lookup is made.

  • bankfour letters identifying the bank
  • branchsix characters identifying the branch within that bank

How to use this IFSC code finder

  1. Type the IFSC exactly as printed on the cheque or in the app.
  2. The shape is checked here first, so a typo never becomes a request.
  3. Read the bank and branch, and compare them with what you expect.
  4. Note the MICR code if a form asks for that instead.

Questions people ask

Where do I find my IFSC?

It is printed on your cheque leaf, shown in your passbook, and listed in your bank's app under account details. Every branch has its own code. Your bank's own record is the authority if anything here disagrees with it.

Has my branch's IFSC changed?

Codes change when banks merge, and several Indian banks have merged in recent years, leaving old codes dead. If a transfer to a code you have used before now fails, that is the usual reason. Ask the bank for the current code rather than guessing.

Is the IFSC the same as the MICR code?

No. The IFSC is used for electronic transfers, while the MICR code is the number printed in magnetic ink at the foot of a cheque for cheque clearing. Both identify the branch, and both are shown here.

What is sent when I look up a code?

Only the code you typed. There is no account and nothing is stored, and every other tool on this site works entirely offline.
