In short: PIN Code Finder

Type a PIN code above and PIN Code Finder returns the post office, the district, the state and the branch type. It is the quickest way to check an address before you post something, or to fill in the district and state on a form from the code alone.

What is PIN Code?

A PIN code is the six-digit postal index number that identifies a delivery area, with the first digit marking the region and the last three the office.

How is PIN Code calculated?

PIN=region+sub-region+sorting district+office

The first digit gives the postal region, the second and third narrow it to a sorting district, and the last three identify the delivery office. That is why codes in the same town usually begin with the same digits.

  • regionthe first digit, one of the postal regions of the country
  • sorting districtthe sorting district within that region
  • officethe last three digits, the delivery post office

How to use this PIN code finder

  1. Type the six-digit code.
  2. The shape is checked here first, so a short or mistyped code never becomes a request.
  3. Read the post office, district and state.
  4. Use the branch type to tell a head office from a sub or branch office.

Questions people ask

Can one PIN code cover several places?

Yes, a single code often covers several localities and more than one post office, especially in cities. The lookup returns the offices recorded against the code. For a precise address, the locality name still matters.

What do head, sub and branch office mean?

They are the levels of the postal network: a head office serves a town or district, a sub office reports to it, and a branch office is the smallest unit, often in a village. The type tells you roughly how large the office is. All three deliver post.

Why does a form reject my PIN code?

Most often because the code and the state do not match in the form's own list, or because a newly created code is not in it yet. Checking here shows which state the code really belongs to. If they genuinely disagree, the post office is the authority.

What is sent when I look up a code?

Only the six digits you typed, and nothing else. No identifier is attached and nothing is stored. Every other tool on this site runs entirely in your browser.
