What is GST Number?
A GSTIN is the fifteen-character registration number issued to a business under Goods and Services Tax, encoding the state, the PAN and a check digit.
How is GST Number calculated?
A GSTIN is built from a two-digit state code, the ten-character PAN of the business, a digit for the number of registrations that PAN holds in the state, a fixed letter, and a check character worked out from the rest. The structure is why an obviously wrong number can be rejected before any lookup.

- The format is checked before anything is sent, so a typo is caught here.
- Read the registered name and compare it with the name on the invoice.
- Check the status, because a cancelled registration cannot charge you GST.
Questions people ask
Why should I check a supplier's GSTIN?
Because your input tax credit depends on the supplier being registered and filing properly, and a cancelled or fake number puts that credit at risk. Checking takes seconds and is worth doing before paying a new supplier. It also confirms the legal name behind a trade name.
What does the status actually tell me?
It says whether the registration is active, cancelled or suspended on the date of the lookup. A cancelled registration cannot lawfully charge GST on an invoice. It does not tell you whether that supplier has filed its returns.
Does this tool send my data anywhere?
It sends only the number you typed, to the lookup service, and nothing else. Nothing is stored and there is no account. Every other tool on this site works entirely inside your browser.
Can I search by business name instead?
No, this tool looks up a number rather than searching for one. A name search is available on the official GST portal. If you only have a name, start there and bring the number back here to confirm it.
