In short: Step-Up SIP Calculator
Starting at ₹5,000 a month and raising it 10% every year for 10 years at 12% builds about ₹16,87,163.13, against ₹9,56,245.48 put in. By the final year the monthly amount has reached ₹11,789.74, which is where most of the extra comes from.
What is Step-Up SIP?
A step-up SIP is a monthly investment that is increased by a fixed percentage once a year, so it grows along with your income.
How is Step-Up SIP calculated?
The amount changes every year, so there is no single formula. The tool walks month by month: it adds that year's instalment to the balance and grows the whole balance by one month's return. At the end of each year the instalment is increased by the step-up you chose.
- balancethe running value of the investment
- P_yearthe monthly instalment during that year

Questions people ask
Why does a small yearly increase make such a difference?
Each year's increase is itself invested for all the years that follow, so it compounds too. The effect is small at first and grows steeply towards the end. Over a long plan a modest step-up often beats starting with a much larger flat amount.
What step-up should I choose?
A figure close to the raise you realistically expect keeps the plan affordable, which matters more than the size of the step-up. Many people match it to their yearly increment. A step-up you abandon after three years is worth less than a smaller one you keep.
Can I set this up with my fund house?
Most fund houses and platforms offer a top-up or step-up option when you start a SIP, where you name the yearly increase in advance. If yours does not, you can raise the amount manually once a year. Either way the arithmetic is the same.
Does the increase apply from the first year?
No. The first twelve instalments are at your starting amount, and the first increase lands at the start of the second year. That is how fund houses apply a top-up, and it is what this tool models.
